How Do You Jump Start Another Car?

Every driver dreads the moment that they go out to their car to find the battery dead. In times like this, you may need to have someone else jump start your car. If you're uncertain about how this process works, your friends at Volvo Cars of Charlottesville have decided to break it down for you.

First, you'll need to make sure you have jumper cables available. Make sure both batteries have similar voltage levels. Hooking up the cables properly will be more important than if one car has negative ground and the other has positive. Make sure both cars are in park and shut off. Attach one red clip to your positive terminal and the other to the other car's positive terminal. Attach one black clip to the helper car's negative terminal, and the other black clip to an unpainted metal surface on the car with the dead battery. Start the working vehicle, then start the vehicle with the formerly dead battery after a few minutes.

If you are having ongoing trouble with your car's battery, consider taking it to the dealership to have it fixed.
